Insurance cost

I live on a main street within a city centre and because of this my car insurance is around £600 more expensive every year than my previous address! However, the car is mainly kept in a rented off the road parking space 10minutes away which won't carry such a premium for insurance if I had lived there. Is there a way to get insurers to give me a better quote as it is mainly kept else where even if it is not another residence of mine?

Yes, tell them the postcode where the cars kept. My FIL keeps his in a lockup at the local garage and his insurance is declared as not kept at home address.

All you can do is tell the truth, most proposals that ask where the car is kept overnight, so they do take that into account presumably so they can adjust the premium but how much weight they attach to the different addresses I don’t know.

The cynic in me thinks they’ll just base it on the worse address so if you keep it somewhere worse you pay more but if you keep it somewhere better you won’t get a reduction and in any event the % of your premium that would be affected by where the car is kept (really just the overnight theft/damage part) is pretty small compared to the third party/driving damage risk

Be careful doing that, Unless you put it in the garage every night.

They may refuse to payout if anything happens to it whilst parked outside
    the house.

Any claim late at night they may question why its not garaged, If its pouring down with rain or snowing
are you really going to walk 10 minutes back from the garage every night?
