Do you mean cut them back to make them grow a thicker stem?0

I mean whip the cling film off. You're meant to thin the plants out individually but i just plant a clump and they do fine......easy peasy
Oh right cheers, so do you have any clues as to why mine is still like 'hair' and not thicker stems i can chop up to put into cooking thanks:beer:2016 Money challenge - £2900 -

Mine are just the same. They've been at more or less the same stage for a while now. I was getting a bit worried, but after reading this thread I'll just give them more time and see what happens. And possibly buy a plant in the mean time! Mummy to an amazing little girl0

Cheers, mines in a metal bucket pot, which all my herbs are and they look good as ive now made a window box for them.
Its a case of let them grow and get thicker then i can start using them!
Oh and eating the flowers, im not sure id fancy eating flowers, just the foliage will do.:D2016 Money challenge - £2900 -
I planted chives beside my carrots as apparently they help to deter carrot fly, and NONE have germinated. Probably just go and buy a plant nowFather Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

Chives are quite slow starting as some of you are finding out. Really, if I sow a pot of chives I wouldn't expect to be cutting them for use until the next year. I could, but I wouldn't, letting them build up their energy.
Buying a chive plant, is one of those plants that either I don't mind buying, or I don't mind telling people to go and buy.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
