worked for the same engineering company now for 25 yrs setting programing cnc lathes, involved in all aspects of purchasing new machines etc, 4 years ago was asked to work in the office quoting jobs plannig routes through shop talking to customers etc. Feb 09 the recession hit all productive staff voluntarily accepted a temporary 10% pay cut and non productive accepted a 20% cut, recently i have spoken out to mangement that the order book is now larger than 4 yrs ago with less overtime and 5 less staff and we should be having some if not all of our 10% or 20% of our money back, and now the bombshell today they had me in the office and said i am top of the list for redundancy sent me home have to go back monday for a meeting. if made redundant should i be able to get back the money i have lost in the last 16 months

MOney redundancy will be based on what you are getting paid now unless there was someagreement at the the time the reductions were implimented.

Hi...sorry to hear this. Your redundancy pay will be based on weekly income over last 12 weeks unless Co said they would protect "short" pay if redundancy arose. Maximum pay for a calculation is £380 per week and 20 years service unless there are enhanced terms.

I know of one Co that agreed to base redundancy pay on the previous full pay but there is no obligation to do so. You can ask in the consultaion.

Ask in consultation meeting why you have been selected and if you think it is unfair challenge it.
  • Had meeting today now they tell me they are trying to cut costs by sharing the job i was doing amongst 3 others in the office and trying to find me a job elsewere in the factory, but i am not holding my breathe still convinced they want me out, sent home on full pay again
