Are there any real benefits to install BBC iPlayer Desktop? Will programs delete themselves after a set time?

With the Desktop you seem to get access to TV for longer than they're available on the site, I think 30 days? That is, you still need to start downloading while they're available for streaming (within 7 days of broadcast), but they'll still be in the Desktop app for quite a while after they're removed from streaming.
Yes they do delete themselves at a set expiry time though. Also, once you've watched it it deletes itself after 7 days (if you don't delete it before then).
The app is very lightweight and download speeds are very fast. Also, personally the video seems to stutter ever so slightly when streaming HQ, but it doesn't at all in Desktop. No problems with download speeds if your broadband isn't quite up to it either.0
