Removing Road Tar Spots

Hi
Anyone got any good tips or products for removing those annoying spots of road tar and other bits of 'black stuff' which collect along the bottom of cars etc? Some of the proprietary stuff that i've tried in the past from Halfords etc doesn't seem very effective and still requires a great deal of elbow grease.

Thanks

Yes I have mudflaps but it don't stop it getting along the bottom sills (or is it cills?). Had the misfortune to travel down a road that was being re-surfaced a few weeks ago. Down here in Kent most of the minor roads they just put a rough top surface on and allow it to set in it's own time. Result for motorists? Lots of crap on the bottom of your car!

  • autoglym tar remover brilliant .. and expensive.

gunk tar remover spray brilliant .. quite expensive

astonish tar remover just as good as these .. and 99p a bottle .... very good on the whole car to get anything /everything off pre- waxing.

everything else on the market ... not a patch on these in my opinion

source.. experience cleaning 3 cars for 40 years .. normally light coloured ones !!
  • Autoglym tar remover is very good, also buy yourself what I refer to as a "bug sponge", you can buy them in Halfords. They look like a small normal sponge but are covered with a type of netting (like a sponge in fishnets!) These eliminate the need to use quite so much elbow grease, making the job much easier!

  • wizzer ... which are you querying ?

i'm guessing astonish ? .. part of a range of 15+ trigger sprays .. kitchen..bathroom..windows...shower etc etc .. depends where you are in the country . We only use astonish products .. think they're brilliant.

Mainly stocked by the "bargain shops" .Can be bought mail order but double the price i think !

autonglym in halfords and most good car accessory shops ... gunk .. difficult to find .. it's in some car acc shops .. but that's why i moved onto the others

I used petrol on cloth. did the trick and not too much elbow grease.

  • I recommend WD40 - spay it on and the tar washes off with it. Had a huge tar problem on my car and this was the cheap and elbow grease free way to solve it!
