daughter starting first job

DD has come home this evening to say she has landed her first job and its full time too. :)
She is currently finishing exams in 6th/7th form and has her last one next tuesday the day before she starts working.
She is currently getting the £30 a week EMA and we curently get ctc and income support as wife is disabled and im her carer. (HRC LRM).

We are wondering now who we need to contact to get our caim adjusted as she will no longer be a dependant.

It will be 4 or 5 weeks before DD gets any wages and also wondered if EMA would run on or anything that will help her start her working life without too much upset.

What exactly does she need to pay right now that she cant wait untill she is paid?
You will need to inform tax credits and this will stop for her and child benefit. Also you will need to inform housing benefit if you get that also

I would guess, fares to work, lunch and everything else a working 18 year old needs.
She has been managing on her EMA but if this stops she will have nothing.

You would have to ring taxcredit and they will stop that claim unless you have other children then they would just remove your daughter and adjust future payments, i know taxcredit has a sort of 4 week run on if you give up work maybe its the same in this situation. Dont really know with EMA as she wouldnt be classed as being in full time education

Her EMA should carry on until she is 'officially' finished school - so after her exams. I don't think there's any 'bonus' at the end of this term - I believe that is just the two in year 12 and one bonus in year 13. Well done to your daughter for getting a job already :) You must be very proud of her!
  • I always thought there were 5 ema bonuses, there was when my dd got it.
as already said ema will end when she leaves school as she wont be there to get the forms signed every lesson/week.Ctc and family allowance usually stops the last monday in august but i suspect it will end as soon as she starts work.
I can only suggest that if she has to work a full month before getting paid, that she approaches her employer who may give her a small advance to help out.

My daughter received a final EMA bonus when her exam results came through last year. Her cousin, in a different sixth form, received his bonus the first week of the school holidays. The bonus is £100, but it is up to the school/college when they pay it.
