Yes we have just changed our home insurance to a pay monthly one and we have saved over 50%! (£33 to £15 a month and a better deal)LBM: June 2010 DMP started: 1/8/2010

Spoke to our case officer, who said that the 'reduced interest' is common with RBS cards, and they may take it into account at the end (if we are ever in a position to offer F&F's). I didn't realise that you can make offers to your smaller creditors at any time without compromising the others (duh!) however she said that it's important to have the funds to do so, because as she said, "If they come back to us with a reduced amount offer, they expect to be paid." So no dipping toes in the water, then. We do have a few smaller ones that we would consider paying off, perhaps next year, so for me that was good news. Will let you know how the review goes, can probably only afford another £20 max, I really hope thats going to be OK.
Have a great weekend, all.

That's interesting tooth fairy. I hear CCCS are dead against it. Good luck with it! :money:

But now I sleep a lot better....I will get myself out of this mess, one of my own making.......how on earth did I get here with nearly 50 grand worth of debt and sod all to show for it.
but I am not going to dwell on what could have/should have been ..look to the future and onward and upwards.
My LBM was when I tried to do my usual take cash out on creditcards then pay it in...suddenly I was there:( refused as I was overlimit...and the interest alone each month was £250.
All I had been doing was shuffling money all over the place, robbing Peter to pay Paul....I spent lunch hours in front of the quick self service till paying cash in on one card taking it out on another and using that to pay another card.
Sorry for the long post but this is such a welcoming place
Just a quick question............my dad wants me to be a signatory on his bank account as he is disabled, thing is his bank is my old bank which I owe a lot to (I have since changed to co-op cashminder).
Can the bank use the set off rule and plunder my dads bank account to pay my debts even if I am just signatory on his account?.
Any help would be very gratefully received
Thanks
TP
Welcome to this great support thread Tweetiepickle. I haven't been here that long but love it all the same.
Well done on getting things started and I'm glad that you are sleeping a lot better too. No-one on here will bat an eye at the amount of debt anyone is in - the point is we all want to do something about it and get out of it - including you of course.
I'm sorry I can't answer the question about your Dad's bank account as I'm not sure of the mechanics of being just a signatory or if you have to be a full joint owner of the account to do so. Someone with the knowledge should be along to help you.
Do keep posting and asking questions though.LBM: June 2010 DMP started: 1/8/2010

Natwest Credit Card sent me a letter today thanking me for informing them of my financial difficulties and giving me a list of all the relevant information the CCCS would need!!! I was shocked at how polite they were?!?! :eek:It did also mention that the account would soon be defaulted and closed but that info would be sent in a seperate letter??
Not sure if I'm looking forward to that one:(
Well done with Natwest, they defaulted me straight away, which is good, since they'll pass me on and won't be charging interest any more.0 -

So if they default me it'll go to someone else (a debt company)?? I also have the overdraft & loan with them, will they do the same thing & default them too??"There's a little witch in all of us"🔮🪬🧿DEBT FREE 06/2018Mrs SD’s Decluttering 2025 ⭐️ 🥇0 -
Morning everybody, hope that everyone is o.k.
Just a quick update on my situation:
Three weeks ago I finally admitted that we had a problem and approached the CCCS, I was in a total mess, the panic and stress was horrendous but I now feel calmer than I have for years and so glad that I have taken this step.
I've been working away from home this week and when I spoke to OH he said that we had a mountain of post (he didn't open any of it!) so that's been on my mind, wondering what I was coming home to, but.... I've opened it all this morning and the majority of it was for insurance for the over 50's due to OH having his 50th birthday last week:rotfl:Oh, the relief was great and there was only one letter from a CC saying pay up or else.
So I'm still playing the waiting game after my first token payment to everyone but I now feel so much better in myself:)
To everyone who is just starting out, stick with it because as everyone on here says you really do feel such relief from taking that step. I cannot thank you all enough for your encouragement, advice and humour:T

Welcome to the club Ellie. Glad that you didn't have loads of horrid mail to come home to. I think this forum/thread works because we all support each other and understand what it feels like to receive these calls/letters. We also have the same goal - to get out of debt. Have a lovely relaxing weekend - I love Sundays because we don't get any mail on Sundays LOLLBM: June 2010 DMP started: 1/8/2010

Thanks Sunfleur, I can't tell you how much better I have felt over the last couple of days. Three weeks ago I was a total mess and it really took me an age to press the submit button on the CCCS but I'm sooo glad that I did. I know that the ride will get bumpy from time to time but I feel that with the help of everyone on here I can get through it.... knowledge is power:T
Have a great weekend

Well after lurking for a while, to-oing and fro-oing between an iva and a dmp I have made my decision and gone for a dmp.
I contacted National DebtLine who were fab, have sent off my letters with the token payments and I am now in the process of doing my SOA to send off to NDL who are going to refer me to Payplan or CCS.
I have hidden my head in the sand for too long, but you can't hide in your dreams or at midnight when waking up in a cold sweat and that horrid feeling of desperation. Nor can you block your thoughts quickly enough when first waking up and that sickening tide of dread washes over you.
The phone becomes an object of hatred and the post is treated as though its radioactive.
But now I sleep a lot better....I will get myself out of this mess, one of my own making.......how on earth did I get here with nearly 50 grand worth of debt and sod all to show for it.

OMG i've just realised that I too am a signatory on my mum's bank account which is also with one of our debtors. (Nat West)I don't have anything to do with the account at all its just that if she were taken ill, i'd be able to withdraw using her debit card.
I've come out in a cold sweat as there is no way I could tell her about the mess we are in so no idea how I could get out of that one.
The only debt actually in our joint names is the overdraft with Nat West. The other loans and one credit card are only i OH's name although I know they are considered joint.
This is such a scary time. Our first payment has gone out and our new bank account is set up with just a few hiccups on direct debits.
I am reading back through as many posts I can on this forum and it is helping although it all seems like a foreign language at the moment.DMP mutual support member 3970 -
:wave:Hello to all,
Do you know what I love about this thread and our little support group?
I was verging on the brink of self-pity, and yet very recently one member has given me advice and yet another has thanked me for my advice to them.
It's a tough learning curve for us all but thank goodness there is a 'safe' place here where we can sound off or admit to our fears if we need to. And there is always someone to advise or support us as needed.
You're all brill :grouphug:
'Twitty'
Thank Goodness I only gave out about your love life instead (much less interesting for us ladies of a 'certain age', don't mention the war, Ian!!) I agree with the other posts, there's no reason why you can't pay this off within the time frame. You've done so well, increasing your payments. You never know what comes along in the meantime either, missus, so keep staggering forward with the rest of us!
