  • Hi, first time on here....hope someone may be able to help?

Im currently on maternity leave, 2/3 months to go.
Have been just about managing min payments on my mountain of CCs with the help of my o/h paying everything else pretty much for me and our 2 kids.
Have finally decided that enough is enough and that we need a DMP, I just cant face the postman and the endless 'you're late paying again' calls anymore. I certainly cant face going back to work JUST to cover interest payments and childcare, need to face up and get things paid off so we can move on.

So anyway, I went through the CCCS plan system and they advised the DMP which is great, reducing my payments from the 800 they currently are down to approx 300 a month. I completed the system on my normal salary rates and what the HMRC website calculated that I will get when I return to work in December. However it says they'll want proof of my income/tax credit statements....how will I do this? Or should I just send my last p60? All that my bank statement shows is money coming in to cover the bill from my partners a/c so I dont think that will help....

Any advice would be really great, not really sure where to go from here...was feeling so positive for the first time in so long before I got to that bit! :/

    Hi everyone,

Right some insight needed from those that have tried it

I have been on a DMP with CCCS since 2008 and my boyfriend is moving out on 1st October. On that day I'll be able to call tax credits and get them ammended but I won't be able to afford the £140 I usually pay CCCS that month. I'm not sure exactly what I will be able to afford until the tax credits are sorted out. What I was hoping to do was for that month make a substantially reduced payment of say £50 to get me through that month and when I know what I'm getting from tax credits I can do a proper review. Do you think CCCS would allow that, I'm not really sure how to handle it?? Does anyone have any experience in this sort of a situation.

    Thanks

Desperatly worried about money right now.

Give CCCS a ring. They can set up your DMP starting now based on the pay you're currently receiving. They'll do a budget with you and you can tell them your partner covers certain costs. This is what I did when I was on Maternity leave. That way you can show them you're payslips as they stand at the moment no problem. When you go back to work you just ring them with your revised figures.

Is that any good to you?

Should I write back or wait for them to realise their mistake??

    Thanks.

Some creditors of mine have never officially in writing accepted my offers. I would just wait and see if they continue to charge you interest/charges etc. I don't think they even read half the letters, they just send out standard responses. Maybe wait and see and if they continue to charge you interest etc write again. I've been writing to Natwest since 2008 and they've never stopped charging me interest and have never replied to a letter. Grrr!

  • Thanks Jvic28 :)

When I completed the web thing I did it that way round first and it told me I should go bankrupt :( ....which was why I did it the other way as I thought they'd ask less questions... perhaps i've messed up there... :/

While I am on, you dont happen to know if creditors are likely to waive over limit charges do you? Just that most of my payments are due out this week and i'm not sure whether to pay them this month to put off the aggro or do as suggested in the plan and stop all the DDs today?

This is such a minefield, I never want to see another credit card again!!!!!!

    Hi Magic

Regarding the charges and what payment to make, it has to start somewhere, so I suggest you go ahead and make the ? £1 payment to each creditor as per the plan, and definitely cancel DDs. You will probably get a flurry of letters from your creditor about the cancelled DDs before they pick up about the DMP, but you must stand firm. They will be receiving their payments via CCCS from now on and just have to get used to it.

At the start of a DMP yes you might get additional charges on your account, so your amount owed may in fact increase, however this is just how it works at the start of a DMP and not much you can do about it. Just stick with the plan and hopefully your creditors will accept the DMP and it will all settle down, and you can start making your monthly payments and have the satisfaction of seeing your debt go down (probably for the first time in ages!). The first few months are the hardest but just take a deep breath and go with it!

    Best wishes

Just an update on our dmp - we had a creditor ring us last night as they only recognise dmp's for 6 months at a time and then they "review" it - so we thought:eek: what are we going to do now.

Anyway the lady on the phone did so much talking I hardly got a word in! She asked if our situation had changed if it was going to change in the next 6 months. I said no, and she said fair enough I'll make a note of it and we will be happy with the dmp for the next 6 months and no one will ring you !!!:j

So a peaceful life for the next 6 months again!

First thing you should do is request ALL contact be by post only with all your creditors and ask that they remove your telephone number from the database. - This should stop these calls even after the 6 months.

Secondly any calls you get in the meanwhile should be told immediately to refer to your DMP provider with your reference number then hang up.

Good luck - it is so wonderful not to dread the phone ringing.

    Thanks DG

Ive just spoken to CCCS - they really are so helpful!! They've adjusted my figures for me and also advised me to just cancel everything so I've just done it. Very liberating actually! :)
Sure I wont feel that way in a few days when the calls and letters start but like you say, has to start sometime, might as well be today.

Thanks again for your support, this forum and its members are so helpful, it really takes a weight off to know you are not the first/only one to be in this unenviable situation!

    Hi there

Just a quick question. Im currently in a DMP with CCCS since March 2011. I checked my credit report last week and found that I was defaulting each month on a Natwest Loan. After speaking to CCCS, they informed me that as I was out of the origional contracted agreement, I would register a default on every payment made, which will stay on my file for the next 6 yrs. Im concerned as my DFD is 2015 and my partner and I was thinking of saving up then to apply for a mortgate but at this rate I will have defaults on my file until 2021! Is this information I have been given correct?
    Thanks

  • Evening all :) i was updating my CCCS details online earlier and thought i'd go through the figures to make sure the statements from creditors matched what the cccs have. Anyways, whilst doing this i realised that one of DH creditors (A$qua) have resumed charging interest. We'd already had a big thing with them a few months ago *sigh* lots of phone calls, from us & cccs, eventually they agreed to hold off all charges, interest for 12 months. They have however just reduced the interest and are charging us again. We called them up but they said that we had to call the cccs..which we did and they in turn told us they had sent all relevant paperwork and it was up to the creditor to decide if they wanted to stop the charges.

Has anyone else had an agreement the creditor has then gone back on? And if so can I get it taken off somehow? I.e with a letter to them again, explaining our situation? CCCS suggested sending another letter but i don't really know what to put. As it stands we pay them £20.20 and they charge us £35 interest/late payment charge every month so we will never pay it off :(

If anyone has any advice i'm all ears :)
