Hello Everyone!
I've not been around for a while but noticed that there's plenty of new people on here in the same position as we were last year.
I just want to say to everyone that finally waking up to the mess we were in, contacting the CCCS and coming on this site for help, advice and comfort is the thing that got us through!
We have just paid our 11th payment to CCCS and next month is our first full year. We have a long way to go but we feel as though we have our lives back;) I now sleep better and feel much happier. The terror has gone and we no longer fear the phone ringing.
We budget and pay cash for everything which hasn't caused us too many problems. I wish that I had taken the DMP route much earlier than we actually did.
So, I say to all you newbies out there just starting out or thinking of starting out down the DMP route that for us it has been the best thing that we could have possible done in our situation. The pressure is off and we can look forward to a much brighter future and I'm sure that you can too:)
I'm not saying that it is plain sailing, there will be times that are anxious and when you are not sure how you are going to pay for something but on the whole it's the right way for many of us.
I thank the Lord for this site and the people on it, they were my friends and the ones that I turned to when I needed support and they were and are always there whatever the time, day or night:T
Good Luck to you all and here's to a brighter tomorrow for all of us:beer:

Wow - Just made first payment for my DMP and can't believe how refreshing it is to know that's all done for this month!
Don't get me wrong, I know there will be moments of stress dealing with the 11 creditors if/when they call, but to know that I don't have to work out who I can and can't pay this month already makes it all worth while! Here's to the next two years!:beer:0 -
First DMP payment gone, we are short of money this month, due to car tax, dentist and having to get a new hoover, but I will be putting items on Ebay which will hopefully see us through.
Received acceptance from 5 of our 14 creditors, will still be meeting minimum payments for Santander so I guess I won't hear from them. Halifax credit card I haven't heard from but received statement with 0% interest and no charges. So I am half way there.Unsecured debt: June 2011 £23,910:eek:0 -
 Just to say a big 'Good Luck' to all those starting their DMP this month! Well done on making the big step to sorting out your debts :T and I hope it all goes swimmingly for you!

Hi, we are still meeting the minimum on our sainsbury's card, yet they wrote and said they weren't accepting the payment plan!!! It made me laugh as it is exactly the same as we have been paying them for months! CCCS said not to worry though, they would sort it out! Santander have been brilliant though, we have 4 cards with them and they have stopped interest on all of them. Halifax never seem to contact people, just automatically stop everything.;)Started comping again August 2012!

Hi Everyone,
I haven't been on the site in a while.. and not been on this thread at all. My OH and I will be sending off our letters to our creditors over the weekend (if I can get the bloody printer to work!!).
We decided to go on a Self-Managed DMP, just wanted to know how successful others have found this? We have a number of accounts with Halifax & Barclays, a big CC with MBNA, 2 accounts with Littlewoods/very and argos card. In total about £45k - ridiculous and reckless I know, and to be truthful I feel like a complete scumbag that I can't even keep the payments up on it!
Just feeling very anxious about it all.. But I know (well I'm about 98% sure) that we are doing the right thing, we just can't go on like this anymore.. Merely existing in this world rather than enjoying it and living - I hope this is something that I start feeling soon!
Hi I self manged my own DMP! started this in 2009, I was one with a fee paying company, ( 2007, started DMP, very scared and panicky, didn't have any idea of this site!) although had no complaint as they truly helped in getting the creditors to free interest (apart from Lloyds), but that's another story!!!:mad: for which I'm grateful and even more unaccepted manged to get interest frozen (not on Llloyds credit cards though), I have/had (cahoot, finished payment yesterday with PPI!!), Egg (PPI paid for almost all of this, only just over £600 left). This leaves, MBNA, Abbey, lloyds loan (had PPI refunded last year, balance now just under( £4K), N/Rock again refunded PPI last year and balance just under (3K), Lloyds credit card (not frozen interest at all, so paying but hardly coming down with, but PPI sent to them so God willing the ba%%%ds will pay up (almost £6K), I've probably paid that and more over the almost 4 years!!, I've been on this journey. They sold my Direct debt debt to Apex, (banked with them for almost 23 years!!) who are fine at the moment, this is standing at almost £2.5K at the moment.
So my answer would be you have nothing to lose, MBNA have been great from the beginning and still ok now! Abbey, N/Rock, Egg/Cahoot same. I don't have any idea of your other creditors, but if you're honest and keep them informed with your situation, I find this tends to be fine! I do speak with my creditors if I get a letter to call them (all communication in writting), this took a while to get into the head of Lloyds! but now seems to be OK!!
I still get statement from: Lloyds, Abbey, MBNA but usually after 6 months or so would call: Cahoot, N/Rock for an update of balance, which is always provided.
Good luck and if you need any other information, please let me know.
Regards,

Ah, Sainsburys!! I could write a book about those rotters (and probably have if you add up all my posts about them!!) I had to make a reduced payment on my DMP last month and was so scared of what they would do that I sent them a cheque for the difference. I know, that's really bad and a complete no no but desperate people do desperate things!
Anyway, didn't they just send me yet another snotogram loading yet more interest for the last three months, even though their reduced rate of interest means I'm only paying off £17 of the monthly £54 they are given. It really makes you wonder sometimes!
Hopefully all will be well soon, just checked my bank and my normal amount has gone to Payplan, so fingers crossed.
Welcome to all our lovely Newbies, have been reading through all your posts. Good luck to all!

Hi Mogsi, we have been doing a self dmp for nearly 3years it was tough at the start ,but it does get better and you will be able to start living instead of constantly struggling and worrying about debt.We have debt with Halifax argos barclays, little woods they have all been great apart from little woods and they were our smallest debt! I know how you feel about not being able to keep up your payments but another way to look at it is you ARE paying them and not shirking your responsibilities so well done ,you are not alone as this site proves and if you continue to use this site for advice ,or give advice or just to have a good moan you will get through your debt problems.take care xx0

Hi all (again),
Well, I called CCCS again on Wednesday, and basically begged for their help. They have finally agreed to put me on a DMP because my job is at risk if I have uncontrollable debt (well, I told them that weeks ago).
So this weekend I will be collecting all the bits I need, and writing to my creditors to let them know. I will be starting in August, and it will last for 2 years and 4 months (although probably less as I get a pay rise soon).
So bloody relieved that they've finally agreed to help me. But also a bit :eek:Total Debt: £0 [STRIKE]£33,043[/STRIKE]

Have you got your basic bank account in place yet?
I went for a DMP via National Debtline first who then referred me on to CCCS.
