Thank you so much for this advice! I have a telephone appointment with Payplan this evening and I was worried they'd be shouting at me for spending too much but everything in my budget is within the CCCS guidelines on their page (and I have tweaked the figures a little bit - I'm now a smoker who wears glasses and has a couple of monthly prescriptions).

Once my plan is up and running the chocolate is most definitely on me :)

Ohh where's the guidelines page on CCCS please, - havent found that!

it's part of Debt Remedy, they ask you all the figures for essential expenditure and if they're too high a little warning box comes up. Sometimes it just says "Are you sure? This figure seems high", but other times it tells you exactly how much they recommend a month. I put like 1000 in for everything to see what the highest amounts "allowed" were and then adjusted accordingly (didn't use the highest for everything: just enough for me to be able to live a bit more comfortably!)

    Hope that helps.
  • HI EVERYONE. PLEASE CAN I JOIN THIS THREAD.

I HAD A LBM IN MARCH AND DECIDED I NEEDED TO SORT OUT MY FINANCES:) AFTER SOME INVESTIGATION I DECIDED TO GO WITH A DMP.

I HAVE MADE MY FIRST PAYMENT TO MY DMP WITH THE SECOND PAYMENT DUE ON 6TH JUNE :)

I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH MY DMP PROVIDER (MY WELCOME CALL). I THOUGHT THE CALL WOULD REASSURE ME BUT I HAVE COME OFF MORE WORRIED!!! MY DMP OFFICER EXPLAINED THAT IN WORST CASE SCENARIO CREDITORS CAN GET DCA CCJ & BAILIFFS AGAINST YOU. SHE DID SAY THIS IS RARE BUT NOW IM WONDERING IF I HAVE DONE THE RIGHT THING. SO NERVOUS NOW AND EXPECTING THE WORST. I ACTUALLY FEEL SICK TO THE STOMACH AND CANT BELIEVE I HAVE MANAGED TO GET MYSELF IN TO SO MUCH DEBT!!!

LISTED HERE IS MY DEBTS AND DETAILS. CAN ANYONE WHO HAS DEALT WITH THESE GIVE ME AN IDEA OF WHAT THEY ARE LIKELY TO DO. ALSO AM I RIGHT TO BE SO WORRIED. THE DMP ADVISOR DID SAY THAT SOMETIMES ITS BETTER TO BE SENT TO A DCA (THIS SURELY CANT BE TRUE). SO WORRIED SO ALL ADVICE IS MORE THAN WELCOME.

    DEBTS

    ISME CATALOUGE £2350
    VERY CATALOUGE £450
    LITTLEWOODS CATALOUGE £1900
    FREEMANS CATALOUGE £1750
    GRATTAN CATALOUGE £650
    BARCLAYCARD £750
    PAYPAL CREDIT CARD £600
    ARGOS STORE CARD £250

    TOTAL DEBT £8700
DMP PAYMENT PAID PRORATA = £115

PLEASE SOME ADVICE AS AM SO WORRIED :o
  • Lots of great advice on here as usual - thanks guys. Payment #2 has good out and after chasing and ringing creditors who havent answered by letter (Egg - Im looking at you!) I think that all the creditors have stopped interest! This is amazing - there are 8 of them and I suspect that after payment # 3 comes out next month I will have paid more of my debt in just three months than probably the whole last year combined!

I spoke to Natwest about my overdraft and the lady on the phone said that they will stop the interest and charges going forward - so just hope that they do.

I definitatly feel less stressed about finding money to keep everyone happy and the phonecalls have stopped so that is one less thing to worry about :-)
  • Hi chellebelle,

Firstly - you are doing the right thing by tackling your debts so well done you :T

Is your DMP provider called Welcome Call? Ive not heard of them, however I suspect they are charging you a monthly fee for the DMP?

My advice would be to contact the CCCS or Payplan and speak to them about changing your DMP to them, they are free (they are charities). I am with CCCS and they are really helpful when you call them and, as I have said in my last post, I have just made my second payment and already all my creditors have accepted the payment plan, no questions asked and with 0% interest. I suspect this is because they have faith in the CCCS that when I say that this is all that I can afford that is really the case.

    Good luck!

    Hi Chellebelle,

You have done the right thing, taking the first step is always hardest but it will get much easier.

Looking at your debts it's highly unlikely any of the creditors will do more than pass the debts around to different DCA's at most. I would be lying if I said they cannot take you to court and get a CCJ but they also cannot refuse to negotiate with your appointed debt management company.

As I said you have done the right thing. Regarding bailiffs, you would have to have a CCJ registered against you and then default on it. Once again it's just not going to happen.

In relation to DCA's they are usually more accepting of DMP's, they buy the debt for such a little amount so are happy for it to be paid over time. I'm not saying they are better than the original creditor because if you asked 1000 people I'm sure it would be pretty even as to who people prefer, just in a lot of cases they are more accepting.

Honestly, please try not to worry...... I know it's much easier said than done but you have done the correct thing.
