Sorry, I don't understand your comment.0 -
PasturesNew, I think without question that they should be getting Attendance Allowance, as they seem in a very similar position to my mother who is mentally not too bad, but physically cannot go out, has never driven, and depends on me to do all day to day errands etc, whilst she is caring for my father who is on higher rate AA.
Only found out mother is getting lower rate AA 3 months ago after I had been 'supporting' her as and when she needs (often) for shopping, appointments for 4 years since my father's stroke. I now get carers allowance and income support after being in financial difficulties because of this, but that was out of duty and lack of advice, my fault.
You will have to get them to agree to a social services assessment which they will probably resist through fear, but please be reassured that social services are more lkely to underdeliver than try to make them do anything in my experience, so please reassure then it will enable them to pay a home help and is nothing to fear.
Quite frankly for anyone to even suggest that they even try to master the internet in order to do their shopping online at their age is beyond belief! And there is a whole lot more involved here than just the shopping- I know from experience. Good Luck, once they take the step to agree it will be so much easier and you will all wonder why it took so long to ask for help. My mother is the most resistant person ever!0 -

Some of us have enough respect for older people to know that for many of them this could be perfectly possible! Don't write your elders off so easily!0 -

I do not write elders off, in fact I give my mother lessons on the internet, but this would be the exception, and good on 'em if they could do it, but they have much more on their plate than internet shopping or otherwise in their situation- I know from experience. In fact, the internet may be a great way for them to get advice and keep in touch with the world they have come detached from. They could come on here for good old advice.;)
Oh and my lack of respect for elders- that's why I have given up my life for the time being to be a full time carer as an only child for my parents. Really?
Love your signature quote btw.0 -

But they are your parents and I'm sure most people would do the same in your position0
