Have downloaded a job application form, it's a pdf file, but I've no idea how to type in all my details & return it.

So your help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

as far as I understand it, you can't edit a pdf file. I would print it out & fill it in by hand

Download the pdf file and convert them into a word document and edit them.

Yeah most are set so you can't edit them - that's kind of the point. Some times people set them up as forms, which do let you fill in the boxes (even with the free Reader) but it's all down to the guy who makes the forms.

Some programs claim to be able to write to PDFs but not seen any that I'd risk downloading...

Quite often with editable forms they are locked so that you always have an original to restart from. Duplicate the form and then see if there is a 'document locked' box to uncheck using 'file properties' in Windows file explorer or 'get info' with the Macintosh Finder.

Download and install the Free PDF XChange Viewer www.docu-track.com/product/pdf-xchange-viewer

Open the PDF document and use the "Typewriter Tool" to fill in form

    Download the latest adobe reader.
It has a function allowing forms to be filled in.

Don't you think that you're supposed to fill in the form by hand and post it to them by snailmail?
They're allowing the form to be downloaded just to save themselves the hassle of posting one to you.

If I designed said pdf's I'd make sure no one could unlock them for obvious reasons. example of evidence for my proposition is this entire thread.

Not being rude just stating the obvious, if you need to even ask the how question an organisation can't afford the manpower costs putting right others wrongs.

Conclusion, even if you are close to expert at unlocking / editing / etc believe me it's hard thankless labour.

    The only exception is :

    - online forms that allow you to write to them online, and ;
    - send them back online

As others have said, Biro & snail mail is the way~2~go
