Sony camera or something else?0

Remove the memory card from the camera and plug in directly in the PC.
You may need to buy a cheap card reader if you have an older PC.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
If you use external memory card then you can use card reader to download the files to PC.0

my pc is old - I'm wondering why its stopped recognising the usb cable all of a sudden - do you think the camera has developed a fault or is there something simple to fix it so it recognises it again - I dont know anything about card readers but surely I shouldn't have to spend more money when the camera supposed to do the job0 -
You could try looking in 'My Computer' to see if the camera is being seen by the PC.
Presumably you have loaded some software for your camera onto the PC?
Might be worth reinstalling.
Card readers that plug into a USB port are quite cheap.
This one for SD cards costs £2.99

This may be a long shot but do you have working batteries in the camera?
One of my cameras has to have working batteries in it for the laptop to recognise it via USB (you have to press the on button to connect it and if there's no working batteries, it can't turn on.:o). 2019 Wins

Do you mean you don't get the Autoplay options anymore, or the PC doesn't recognise the camera as an external drive at all?
Look in 'My Computer' or 'Computer' and inspect all the drives, looking for the camera as an external one. If you find it, double-click, and maybe a couple of folders in, you'll get your pictures folder.0 -
If you don't get the Autoplay options anymore, and none of the above suggestions work, There is an Autoplay Repair Wizard available on the Microsoft website.
Just enter Autoplay Repair Wizard into a search.
The download is available from non Microsoft sites so maybe best to do this from Microsoft if you decide to try this. It got my Autoplay working again when all the other methods failed.0
