Staples Laptop ?

The current £499 duo core from Staples is very tempting. It only has 512 RAM. Does anyone know if this is simple/costly/possible to upgrade and in any case is it of benefit to user wanting wireless internet connection, storage of pictures and maybe to add a TV card ?

post thelink to the laptop and we will have a look for you,
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!
  • If you wanted to add a tv card you'd deffo need to get more RAM.

Its not hard though. Laptop ram is VERY easy to upgrade - just unscrew the memory slot on the bottom of the lappy and slot in the new ram. You just need to 100% know the type of ram you already have in!

There are programs around (im sure someone will post a link) that tells you what the RAM is.. and it should only be about £60 for another 512mb or something...

Make sure it has 60gb+ if your doing lots of photography stuff as well though..

Sorry but I disagree about this. I have just checked the memory usage of my DVB receiver and it is less than 43MB while running. Memory is easy enough to add but 512MB is plenty for most applications.

Recording tv with 512mb? no chance.. not while running other things anyway.

Well it's not a problem here! Four active IE windows and OE running while recording and hardly any difference to the memory used by the TV program which is ProgDVB.

Many thanks. I've copied the link to the staples promotion. The comet on line offer (above) has higher ram but 40 Gb. The staples has 60 GB.

you got it on the worst type of quality or a decent .avi standard?

When i tried recording (multiple progs used) for about 3 hours with a .avi file.. i was getting skipped frames etc due to ram usage

Certainly not the worst quality. MPEG2 and a 3 minute clip has a file size of 70MB.

    ;)

    p4 2.6ghz 800fsb l2cache (1mb) - 6800 ultra 256, 512gb corsiar dual channel 3200 twin xms

Fine to watch but was told if i had more ram it would record properly. Which would make sense with that spec..
