Hi, not sure if I'm posting in the right thread, can a Mod move it if its not thanks
OK, basically I bought some plastic boxes from a shop in Glastonbury, totalling £7.50, paid with my Visa debit card and left. When I got home I noticed that they had only charged £2.50 to the card, thought "oops" but wasn't going do another 20mile round trip to show them their mistake.
But today I noticed that the next day they had charged my debit card again for the £5....... Now I appreciate that it is their money and everything else, but surely they cannot just charge my card without me or my card being present? It's frightening that they did this, I was going to say something the next time I went in and bought some boxes (a pretty regular occurrence - like weekly - as I'm always buying new snakes and need the boxes to house them in), but in all honesty they have lost my custom now.
Is this legal for them to do and if not what can I do about it?
Thanks
Edit: I went in on the 6th and they charged again on the 7th

You purchased some boxes for £7.50 and they have in total taken £7.50 from your card.
So now they have lost your custom?????
Can't see your problem to be honest.0 -

Can't see your problem to be honest.
Its the fact theyve taken the money using the details from the card receipt, with me not present... makes me wonder and I won't deal with companies I feel I can't trust0 -
Why can't you trust them?
You owe them £7.50 and they have taken £7.50.
That shows you can trust them.0 -
When you used your card you gave them authorisation to debit £7.50 from your bank account. For whatever the reason, this has been split into two separate transactions (possibly just an error) but they have still only used the one authorisation code generated at point of sale. Be thankful they corrected their error sooner rather than later, when you had spent the other £5 and went overdrawn. The answer would be the same in that situation also, but you would then be charged by the bank for the pleasure....Debts at LBM (May '08) £5760 - Lloyds CC £4260, Lloyds OD £1500;Debts as of May 28th 2011:Santander CC: £0.00Lloyds OD : £0.00DFW Nerd #1247 - Proudly dealt with my Debts

I would think it's you that they can't trust.
