Hi There

I'm with EDF Energy on their E7 tariff. I'm not really sure it's the best one for me. I'm thinking of calling them and asking which tariff would work out cheapest for me based on my past 12mths usage. Do you think they'll be willing to tell me this?

I'm due to move out within the next 6mths or so so don't really think it'll be worth my while changing suppliers as it usually takes a couple of months to go through anyway.

If I was to change tariffs but within the same company, will it be with immediate effect?

Also, can anyway tell me who chooses the tariffs? When I moved in nearly 3yrs ago they automatically put me on the E7 but I'm sure it's working out more expensive for me. My annual usage is 7119units. 5851 during the day and 1268 at night. Does this seem high? I use gas for my water and central heating. We have one TV and computer. TV is on for maybe 3hrs per day and computer is on for about 12hrs. Laundry gets done 3 times per week. No dish washer. One combi fridge/freezer.

Any input and advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks. I can't believe how wise everyone is on here!!!

Using approx 18% of your electricity at E7 rates means it almost certainly is not the best tariff and you would be better off on normal rates. The 'break-even' point varies by area and company, but is normally over 20%.

You can check this by looking up the 'normal' tariff for your area of the country - its straight arithmetic.

Some companies will let you change from E7 straight away. Mine did(BG) and they simply add both readings together and I pay as if it was a single meter. Others insist on a new meter and charge for it.

EDF will not let you come off an E7 tariff if you are on a E7 meter. You will need to ask them to change the meter for you.
