Flat roof problem with mould growing

Hi,
Can someone advise please. I have a flat kitchen roof extension which many moons ago had a covering of gravel put on it, when it was built I assume. This is now covered with globuls of moss in thick clumps and it looks disgusting and to stop it getting worse I wondered if I could remove it myself?
What I planned was... scrape it off using a spade and cleaning the roof up as best as I could, then putting down some kind of glue and recovering it with fresh gravel? Now this is probably a mad idea but I really, really can't afford to have someone in to do the job.
Does this sound feasible at all?
Thanks.
PS title should read moss growing, not mould!

I use a winter wash from B@Q about now. Apply when rain is expected. The moss will come away easily without scraping but will come back. The moss does little damage but some tall plants do grow in it and they will damage the felt.0

Hiya,
Thanks for that. Another thing I forgot to ask was that someone mentioned to me that if you sprinkle salt around on soil that it prevents anything from growing. I wondered if I mixed alt in with the fresh gravel, do you think that would stop the moss from coming back?
Sorry if its a stupid question but I need to try anything.0 -
If the roof drains well, then the accumulation of moss is actually protecting the felt and extending its life0

Hi,
So do you think it would be best to just leave it then?0 -
I would leave it there.
If it is a felt covered roof, it will last a lot longer by being kept damp.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0
