apologies if this is on the wrong part of the forum.
my partner worked in 2 part time jobs one in a shop and one in a bar. he was paying the higher rate of tax on his wages from the shop as this was his "2nd job".
he has now left the bar and works in the shop now that they have given him more hours.
does he need to contact inland revenue to get his tax code changed?? or will this happen automatically?
also his P60 for the shop shows he earnt £3000 in the shop and £6000 in the bar. would he be due a rebate as he only earnt £9000 overall for tax year 09-10 but was paying the higher tax for one of his jobs.

I think you have posted on the wrong board.
From my understanding he should forward his P45 to the shop which will have his correct tax code for his now main job. The Bar will also send a copy of the info to Inland Revenue who will also ammend their records accordingly.Mortgage Feb 2015 £178,500 END 2043!!

His tax code at his first job is most likely right (is it 647L) if he was paying a higher rate at his second job (was this BR).
If he earnt only £6000 at his first job then he will have only overpaid tax of approximately £90 at the second job as he almost meets his allowance in his first.
When did he leave his first job? If it as after the end of the tax year then he needs to send both P60's to HMRC to claim his refund.:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! he left the bar last saturday so its after tax year 09-10. he hasnt received a p45 as yet. yes the shop are taxing him on the BR code. he has his P60's so will get him to forward to inland revenue. the bar is very slow at giving wage slips/p45s out so will get him to phone them to get it done asap.
cheers for the advice.0 -
He can phone the Inland Revenue too, to update his employment record on the phone, they can issue a wk1 code with his allowance on it so at least he can earn his tax free pay every week, at least until they get the p45 dets back and he can go on a cumulative code then. hthNo Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:
