vine roots

I'm about to plant a grapevine. The perfect position is at the front of the house, facing south, growing up a trellis. I had one in a pot that did quite well a couple of years ago, but died because I couldn't water it frequently enough. This time though I'm thinking about putting it directly in the soil, just next to the soakaway.

Are there any issues about the roots possibly causing subsidence?

no issues. would be interested to hear from others as friend told me you can never eat them or use as they are too bitter? I know they make wines in kent etc is it different when they are on a vine?

my sister in law has a grapevine in her garden, they aren't like the grapes you buy in the supermarket, but they are just about edible.. trouble is they are small fruits with seeds in so the seeds make them taste bitter..

Outdoor vines in Uk tend to be small grapes with seeds, weather & climate I guess

It will grow & very well, but the grapes will just not be large eating ones, good for wine though

Perhaps contact Deacon's nursery on Isle of Wight for advice on suitable vine for outdoors & eating?
