Unzipping files pulses causing switch down!

I have a Dell with Vista, (Google Chrome) if someone sends me an attachment that is zipped or I go to a website that allows ziped files to be asked for, as soon as I click the info pulses as though it is trying to get through and fails (many times a second). I can't shut the connection down. I just have to press and hold the off switch. Has anyone the solution?

Do you mean that it is freezing up while you are downloading the zip file?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Oh dear, The laptop was wiped (over the phone) last year by Dell and I am not able to play DVD any longer because I now find out the Dell/Roxio player has to be installed before the operating system. I wonder if there is not any unzipping software - how would I know? Sorry I am so ignorant!0

Fermi,
It pulses and pulses rather than freezes. Then multiple boxes saying internet explorer has stopped working0 -
right click on a folder and see if there is any thing like "add to archive"0

Yes, there is a "send to" and then "compressed (zipped) folder. I've just done this and it almost instantly changed the icon on the left hand side from W (word). I then clicked on it and the pulsing started so I've shut laptop down again!0

so which mean you have not installed any other software like winrar / winzip / 7zip
just try to install 7zip software and extract it via 7zip and see.0 -
Thank you very much. I will download and report back in the morning.0
