Hire car insurance refund
I hired a car from Europcar to drive from Amsterdam Airport to the south of Holland on Sunday evening. I had to pay a €400 deposit to cover insurance and a tank of petrol, which, they told me, would be refunded to the card.
I returned the car with no problems on Monday evening, and a full tank of petrol. They confirmed this upon inspection.
Yesterday, I checked my account and found that the deposit had not been returned. I phoned up to ask and was told it would take 10 working days to refund it!
I think this is outrageous. Is this allowed? Is it the norm? €400 is not peanuts to me, and I have bills to pay.
Am I within my rights to ask them for the interest on this?
Any input appreciated.
