Move to vault and delete from there.

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD NOW')
    http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes...-10804572.html
    UPDATE and FULL SCAN
Post the log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
    REBOOT
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

Please runa FULL scan with malwarebytes as opposed to a quick one

I believe your still infected with a trojan so please run COMBOFIX
    http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
    Shut down your anti virus
Follow the simple instructions it gives
Post the COMPLETE log it creates here (Split into sections if need be) ~ if there are loads of 'SNAPSHOT' pages then leave them out
If it comes up with a RENAMING error then RIGHT click the exe file and RENAME and call it QWERTY (Making the complete file name 'QWERTY.exe') Or SAVE as 'QWERTY' on download

I could not see how to deactivate AVG, so ran combofix and below is the log. AVG etc have disappeared from the bottom bar near the battery and sound symbols. Please note I have limited computer knowledge.

I ran Hijackthis again and fixed 3 items the one below was not there -

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [rwgnyw] rundll32.exe "C:\Users\Margaret\AppData\Roaming\gbcbg.dll", atbz ccgq

I have been reading the logs and have seen that it was removed under "ORPHANS REMOVED" above.

I have now rebooted and all seems to be ok except AVG shows "!" instead of a tick. This happened when I was trying to disable it last night.

The laptop is running much quicker now, so it seems that the help you have given me has worked.

What is the usual way this virus infects machines? The reason I ask it that the machine was used by other people while I have been away, they would have been online and also would have connected a memory stick to transfer documents to this machine to enable them to print them from here.

Is it possible their machine may be infected.

Thank you ever so much for your help.

You have an old AVG anyways

Use the 32 bit AVG removal tool
    http://www.avg.com/download-tools

Then install AVG9 (If you must)

Id personally recommend you take a look at one of the other free av programs (AVIRA, AVAST and MICROSOFT SECURITY ESSENTIALS)

Personally I use Avira, but if you want email scanning then use AVAST

Whatever you choose, update it and run a FULL SYSTEM SCAN

If somones plugged in a usb stick then it could have already been on the stick
That particular virus id hazard a guess has come from some sort of dodgy infected download
And yes, every chance theyre infected
