Help Car Insurance for 17 year old

Does anyone know of any good companies for a 17 year old new driver. Wanted to put him on as an additional driver on our policy but they don't cover 17 year olds.
Others that I've tried have been extortionate.

"Extortionate" is the norm!
Do a search on here for lots of discussion on your topic.0 -
Remember that although you view the quote as "extortionate" insurers are basing this on the risk profile of 17 year old male drivers, who tend statistically to be the biggest risk - more accidents etc. This is not necessarilly the value of own damage claims but also the potential third party liability claims e.g. accident causes injuries to a bus full of passengers (extreme but not unheard of).
The quote will also depend on:
Type of vehicle
Your postcode
Whether or not the vehicle is garaged
You can try adding a parent with a clean record on the policy to hopefully bring it down a bit.
Either try looking online or speak to a good broker who knows their market.
There are lots of suggestions on here but remember that cheapest is not always best - look out for hidden excesses - some people have found policies with excesses for third party claims when they read the wordings.
Also be honest with insurers - do not try and front a policy for a 17 year old (insure in your name and pretend you are the main user) as if you get found out e.g. your son is involved in an accident, there is a risk the policy will be declared void and you will be left without cover.
You can always post details of the vehicle you are looking at for your son for suggestions on where to insure and people may help. However this question is probably asked two or three times a week and the days of cheap insurance for young drivers has disappeared - expect to pay well over £1,000 for a basic vehicle in a country area.0
