I dont advise any students to get 2 accounts.. 1 account and 1 job should be enough :S

Fair comment but I had to raise another 4k to do my course so it was either a loan or cheekily obtaining two more student accounts for 2 x 2k overdrafts. I've paid them [the o/ds] off in full now I'm working am glad that I never paid interest.

I think it should be considered by all, even if its rejected for whatever reason, except legal because some banks don't even care/ask if you have more than one, as Martin said.
  • The other thing is the possibility of sticking your interest-free overdrafts into a savings account.

As previously stated Halifax do not require their account to be your only student account, they ask you to pay your loan into it though I think.

NatWest on the other hand specify in their T&Cs that it should be your only account. You may find they make an exception if you tell them you wish to close your account in an attempt to keep your business?
