Collect in Person

Quick Q -

There's a home entertainment system on ebay - I emailed seller and asked if they had a BIN price - They said they would sell it for £300.

Now its on auction so they would need to end it.

If i get them to send me an invoice through paypal for this, if theres anything wrong with it when i go to collect it am i still covered by Paypal?

If there was a fault would i have to take the item and then arrange posting it back to prove i had returned it?

Item is 2 hours from my home so can not view before i buy but I am in the area on sunday so can collect it

Thanks

If they will accept a buy it now when its on normal auction, i would be very very surprised if they will take payment any other way than cash on collection...

Yes you are, but it is best to thoroughly check the itme over before you take it away as if you do take it and it is damaged you would have to pay to return it tracked at your own expense.

It is the seller who is being foolish in asking for paypal.

You've only pulled a blinder if you are a scammer, and I will assume you are not :D

It's the old paypal on collection scam.

If you pay by PayPal when you collect in person, and then say you didn't receive it, then PayPal will refund you - even if the seller has a photo of you collecting the item and a signed receipt! A well-known scam.
