Warranties & the Sale of Goods Act

Hi - don't know if anyone can help me on this one!

17 months ago I purchased, from a well-established UK music company, a bass amp, brand new.

Last week the speaker of the amp just failed - stopped working, nothing! (have had it looked at, and the whole speaker has just gone kapput).

I went back to the company, as they never sent the paperwork with the item, to ask about warranties etc - and they replied that whilst the amp part is covered for 2 years, the speaker itself is only covered for a year! I really can't afford another £800 to buy a new one, and feel that actually the goods are substandard to have broken so quickly (especially as the amp is mainly played at home, and not gigged).

Does anyone have any advice on what I can do? Does the Sale of Goods Act help in any way?

Thanks, in advance for anything you can contribute
