T-Mobile cancelling procedure???

Hi Peeps,
I've been a T-mobile customer for 4 years now and soon I am coming to the end of my current 18 month contract. I am planning to change provider to Vodafone as they offer 30 day rolling contracts with more minutes and texts than T-mobile can offer etc etc.. I also pay £20 per month at present and with my wedding coming up I am looking to save money. I'm planning to go down to a £10 a month tariff.
I have just phoned T-mobile to ask if I have to give notice to end my contract and was told 30 days which seems to be the norm with most providers. The problem I have is I want my service to end on 18th August 2010 (official end date) and don't really want to spend another penny with T-mobile after that date. I was told I can do this if I ring up 30 days before Aug 18th, but will be charged an early termination fee!! If I ring up on Aug 18th I won't have to pay this fee but will have to pay another months bill!! Either way they extract more money out of me. Does anybody know where I stand with this??
Any advice would be gratefully received..

If you call on the 18th of july and give your 30 days notice to cancel on the 18th of Aug you will have to pay a months line rental but this is for the month in advance so on your final bill you would be refunded what the line rental works out to from the 18th of Aug to your billing date0 -
Thanks for the response. If you call on the 18th of july and give your 30 days notice to cancel on the 18th of Aug you will have to pay a months line rental but this is for the month in advance so on your final bill you would be refunded what the line rental works out to from the 18th of Aug to your billing date
I was told if I called on the 18th of July it would still be classed as an early termination of contract even though I would in effect be giving 30 notice to end my contract on the final day and paying that final months line rental. The chap suggested if I didn't want to pay a termination fee I'd have to ring up on Aug 18th, but that would mean I would end my contract on September 18th. It does seem abit fishy to me.
