Windows security essensials

I recently downloaded the microsoft security essensials package but since then windows defender (pre installed on the computer) now tells me it's spyware/malware function has been disabled and when I try to re enable it I get an error message.
Any advice apreciated

Good move MSE is an excellent performance / price point for an AV prog.

Forget your predisposition with defender, it's automatically disabled by MSE, just leave it off and forget it.

Hope this reassures you - you do not have a problem my friend.

To add to what Richie has said. Defender is diabled by MSE as MSE contains the functionality of Defender.
