Pregnant and needing the Wii - question

Now, I’ve asked my midwife and she’s like yeah whatever as long as you’re not scuba diving or abseiling or anything, but I’m 16 weeks pregnant and getting really porky, and the porkiness is not baby, I was pretty lardy to begin with but it’s getting silly now. I put it down to 4 months of not wanting to eat anything (and I mean anything) and husband trying to tempt me with a range of chocolate, takeaways and other rubbish I’d not normally touch with a bargepole. The normal appetite is starting to come back now, I’ve eaten a vegetable and some fruit this week!
Anyway, I’ve digressed, I‘ve now got some energy so on top of my pregnancy yoga I’d like to get back on my Wii and do a bit of hula hooping and other stuff which hopefully will make me less lardy, is hula hooping going to be a problem? Has anyone got any horrific pregnancy Wii stories to share or is it generally positive?
Thanks all.

I'm almost 20 wks pg and I still do all the activities on the Wii that I did before, only difference is that I don't put as much 'Umph' into it as I did iyswim same with the hula hooping, I still do it, just not as vigourously:) And on the Wii Fit yoga I only do certain exercises(the easier ones:o) as some of the stretching can really hurt especially when you're ligaments start to stretch to accomodate baby, although I've found you can usually tell the difference between exercise stretching and ligament stretching as the latter can take my breath away on occasion. I used the wii everyday during my pregnancy. Though doing the hula hoop and jogging sent me into contractions lolGC July: £0/£1200

The general rule is not to start any new physical activities during pregnancy.
I guess it's up to you to define quite what that means in your case.
If you're going to do it, start slowly and build up gradually. If it feels wrong then stop.
Maybe start with something a little gentler than hula-hooping?0 -
Thanks Jimmy, I used to do 2 hours a night on the wii until I got pregnant and became too exhausted to keep my eyes open. I did a 5k race on Sunday so the energy is back in abundance, thankfully.
I can throughly recommend pregnancy yoga though, it's so fantastic.:staradmin0 -
I was told that you can continue to do anything you did before ie: if you jogged or went to the gym but not to take on anything new that your body wasnt used to. So if you used the WII regular before you were pregnant then you should be able to continue to do so. Obviously listen to your body and dont push yourself beyond what is comfortable :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Just one bit of advice before you get changed into very little to do exercise on it, ensure you OH is not behind you with a webcam.

I used to work with a teacher of dance notation, who was very active in demonstrating to her students. She asked the midwife if it was OK to walk on her hands, and was assured that as long as she was used to doing it before she got pregnant, there was no problem with continuing to do so.Signature removed for peace of mind0
