Best place to buy Euros

Hi

Ive never been abroad before, and I'm off to Spain in 3 weeks, and im not keen in using my cashcard to access money as it will cost me for currency transfers. I'm thinking about just taking some Euros in cash, but where do I buy? The banks and P.O. rates are horrible!

Any suggestions? Im not keen on travellers cheques.

I have just used them to buy my Euros. OK it cost £5 for delivery but it was so easy. I ordered on-line Friday morning and they arrived special-delivery at 9 o'clock the next morning. It was a good rate of exchange, with no commission. If I had ordered over £500 worth of currency the £5 delivery fee would have be waived.

Just returned from Spain, and found the best exchange rates without question were in the resorts themselves (most are commission free, but not all - check). So I would go with a few euros to tide you over a few days until you have looked aroung, and then use your wad of sterling for the best value.
  • I always get Euros at PO before I go as they are cheaper than the banks and travel agents. When out there I take cash out of the bank as you still get slightly better rate - even after the fees - and paid for any purchases that I could by either debit or credit card for even better rates. If you do this remember to take your passport as ID or they will probably refuse the cards in most places without it.

We found that in Tenerife, rate was 1.41+.

Shame we changed our £ to € over here and got 1.38 from the Post Office :(

Gonna open a Nationwide FlexAccount for future holidays though :)

Yeah, a couple of weeks ago I got 1.425 in the UK, and a few days later in Spain they were plenty of places offering 1.455 comm. free.
