Ive bought 2 bags of multi purpose compost from Asda..only £1 each, and small 15l bags,I was gonna fill containers, but the large pot i have will take both bags, but if i lay the bags flat and remove the top covering i will get a bigger growing area, shallow but wide,i was only planning on sowing some salad leaves/lettuce/chives/herbs etc..does anyone know if this would work?

Do you have a small plastic greenhouse. Reason I ask is growing then in post and in greenhouse may sped them up a little

I dont see why not in growbags though but haven't tried that myself. I grow mixed salad leaves and lettuce in pots as do chives/herbs, the herbs are more permanent hence why pots

Yes it will work, but only for the salads, the herbs will need a more permanent place to live.

Knock the bag about a bit to fluff the compost up before you open it. It will be better to put the bag into a wooden box the right size before you open up one side, otherwise you may find the bag falling open in ways you don't want it too.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

You could always get cheap plastic pots and use the compost from the grow bag for herbs, they always look better in clay pots
