That sounds like a completely different type of court matter. A much much more serious matter, and not comparable.

Don't get that sort of thing mixed up with a CCJs on consumer debts. They are a world apart, and looked at quite differently.

Put it this way. If every civil servant with a CCJ lost their job, then the government probably wouldn't need to cut back post. ;)

My original statement still stands. I have not heard of, and cannot imagine, a civil servant losing their job over a debt CCJ.

EDIT: Thinking about it, I know a civil servant in the MoD who has a CCJ. Didn't effect their job at all.

Someone I work with went to court over a dispute with a neighbour. Another colleague told their manager and they are now facing disciplinary even though they were found not guilty.

She was been told any court appearance will mean losing your job.

I'm sorry but where is the natural justice in that? Not guilty means you have done nothing wrong so I would love to know which employment law sanctions disciplinary action on grounds of a court appearance.

The tribunal would be interesting in the event of a dismissal.

Sounds like a work myth to me.

I am civil servant working for the job centre (I process claims and file documentation). Reston's are taking me to court, and my DMP company told them that if I go to court I fear for my job. The now want 4x the offered amount.

My question is this. As a civil servant will I lose my job? Does anyone have any advice. I have a young son to support .

    Hiya

So you're an AA/AO - i.e both are junior roles and no, you will not lose your job. I was an SEO when I left (started at EO, HEO then SEO) and was also manager of internal fraud which dealt with these things (i.e. DSSp/SA) - whilst we did check for CCJ's against staff (as well as other checks) we would only pull you in for interview if it was there when you applied and you lied about it, as it will happen whilst you're in post then you'll be fine - nobody will sack you.

Usually you have to inform the SA (security adviser) for your district if you get a criminal record or court action, which I suppose answers why your mate will be in bother, but in this instance i'd really not worry about it as a CCJ is not a criminal matter.

As an aside, it may be worth noting that unless you bring the dept into disrepute then even court action will only result in a formal verbal or written (1st stage) warning, i've never once sacked someone for having a criminal record - never!

Hope that helps - good luck. Just forget about DWP, they won't care! :D
