I am civil servant working for the job centre (I process claims and file documentation). Reston's are taking me to court, and my DMP company told them that if I go to court I fear for my job. The now want 4x the offered amount.
My question is this. As a civil servant will I lose my job? Does anyone have any advice. I have a young son to support .
Regards,
Malc

I don't think I've ever heard of a civil servant losing their job over something like that?
Why on earth should you?
Talk to your union rep and HR dept perhaps?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I am also a civil servant- I work in Local Government.
I have just had a meeting with my manager and HR- I am going to go bankrupt and there is no risk to my job
Hope this helps

Hi, I'm a civil servant and I've looked through my contract. It looks like its only if you go to court and are found guilty of a crime that you could lose your job. No mention of CCJs or bankruptcy or anything.

Malcom, check with your HR department (anon if necessary). You will not lose your job but in our department you can face disciplinary action for failing to disclose you are subject to legal proceedings of any sort (in fairness it is much more relevant in our department). We will also put you in touch with Welfare and the Civil Service Benevolant Fund to see if anyone can help xxxPay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000

Hi Malcom, and welcome!
You mentioned a 'debt management company' - can we just check that you are with one of the free debt charities, and not with a company that charges you a juicy fee to do no more (usually less, as creditors usually prfer to deal with the charities as they know they are not losing money to manaement fees) than the charities can?

Not sure I should say name, it is a large company, everyone will have heard of them. I called my advisor and asked the question and they said they would ask the legal team about it. Got called back today saying they had called Reston's instead and asked them not to go the CCJ route as it would risk my job. Rston's had accepted £25 a month in principle, and then changed it to £150 a month.
I'm really screwed and worried now. I'm going to ask for a new contact with my DMP.0 -

Someone I work with went to court over a dispute with a neighbour. Another colleague told their manager and they are now facing disciplinary even though they were found not guilty.
She was been told any court appearance will mean losing your job.0
