Lost train season ticket

I purchased an annual train (SW Trains) season ticket to London. Due to various moves and working away I managed to misplace it. I am now rarely going into London (haven't for 4 months) as I'm mostly working elsewhere so tried to get a refund.
At the station they said I couldn't get a refund on a lost ticket but could get a replacement - might as well so filled in form (can't get a refund on a replacement either). Said I had to wait for a call from fraud prevention.
Fraud prevention duely called after a couple of weeks and said no reason not to get a refund and also can get a refund for the 4 months from when I stopped using it. I said what the station had said and he was quite dismissive saying that he was the guy that knows the rules.
He called back about 10 mins later to say he'd called the station and I couldn't get a refund but could get a replacement but I needed to have an interview with him. Has to be at that station and he's only there Fridays. I couldn't do this Friday so he said he will pass it to customer services.
Sounds like that's it for that ticket.
Was first class too so probably due a couple of grand.
