Given its Bebo I doubt the child will know how to do that :p

Id have to disagree. Most kids 13 and over these days know about proxies etc
As a general average, im pretty sure most teenagers know FAR more about computers than their parents

you could always subscribe to the free OpenDNS. This handles all your DNS queries, so you can block access to any site you like, and you can set the DNS server address on your router to go via OpenDNS rather than the one assigned by your isp.

  • I remember editing the code on the school computers (Back in the BBC micro days) when i was about 11.. trust me, a kid will find a way

Ideally, change the DNS on your router to an openDNS account, then block whatever you want on that account. Password protect your router.

If your kid gets round that, well, i'd congratulate them for their ingenuity

There's nothing wrong with Apple products. My son has an iMac and he has never had any problems with it.

I have to agree, anyone with a real interest in computers would find sites like that to be annoyingly "user friendly" and "simple".

Thats fairly easy to bypass if you don't restrict the local network settings on the computer.

Quite true, you could just set the local DNS up..

I do agree, any child using Bebo isn't geeky enough to know how to get around most kiddy protection
