Im with telewest at the moment and spend £11.00 line rental/month and about £23.00 in calls. Im thinking of switching to First : Telecom with the FT Cable plan... Its an auto dialer and i think i should be better off by about £5 - £7 a month. has anyone else switched to First : Telecom or use an auto dialer?

First Telecom's Saver 1 plan's 150 free weekend minutes to any UK 01/02 numbers for no monthly fee sounds tempting but, beware, their 0845/0870 rates are excessive (I cannot find their 0844 or 0871 rates on their site).

Their mobile and international rates are not particularly impressive either.

If you don't have the option of getting a BT landline reconnected for free (which would open up a plethora of cheaper options), it may be cheaper for you to use 1899's and/or 18185's and/or 18866's freephone access numbers and/or some of the many dial-through providers shown in the MSE Callcheckers.

Buying your own Orchid V4+ LCR might be the way to go as well.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

If you are stuck with a cable phone line, the Phone Co-Op offer reliable access to non-geographic access numbers (08xx etc). 0845 is 3.95p peak, 1p evenings and weekends, and all 0844/0871 numbers are at the advertised BT price (eg if it says "7p per minute" on Telestunt or wherever, then that is what you're charged by the phone co-op). There is no connection fee like cable, and charging is per second. You can also still join First Telecom, too. First Telecom insist you have a dialler box that remains plugged in, but the phone co-op operates just via an 0800 access number. If you are only going to use the phone co-op for calls to access other indirect suppliers then join the phone co-op's "Call Saver" tariff as their is a low minimum call charge of just 1.2p.

Also - if you are going to join First Telecom, do so via https://www.quidco.com to get £10.50 cashback.
