gas or electric heating?

Buying a house which has no gas installed although there is supply to hook up to. Was told the prices are virtually the same now - is it cheaper to have gas central heating these days versus electric heaters? Also anyone out there know how much the gas connection ould cost, and indeed a new central heatingsystem? Wonder if in future natural gas will ever be cheaper option again? Thanks!

Electric heating will be 2-3 times more expensive. Cost of installing gas supply will depend on how far the supply has to be routed, you need to get a quote. Cost of CH-no one can estimate that without knowing size of house, numbers of rads, and the type of system you want (combi, conventional?).
Also depends what system is currently installed.
Putting in gas would be a big investment but worth it in the long run, it will also add value to your property more than almost any other improvement.
Since most UK electricity is generated from gas, it's unlikely that electric heating will become comparatively cheaper! No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I do not know where you got the information that gas and electricity cost the same, but you were sadly misinformed. As macman says, the cost of electricity is several times more expensive than that of gas. If you have the gas connected then you will always be glad that you did. Plus, the house will be easier to sell when the time comes.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
