Are you not locked in for a fixed term with FixOnline v6 as well? I'm on v7 and I am.

You can get a free energy monitor from here:

The £30 penalty is discretionary. Maximum two switches every three months. So I expect if you switch too often, and the admin gets fed up, you get the penalty.

I try to switch on the quarterly bill, when I submit the meter readings:

    November 2009: FixOnline 4
    February:FixOnline 6
    May:FixOnline 8

    No £30 penalty so far.

    Hi kazzys

Just thought I would confirm a couple of things.

The free Energy Fit kit is not tied to a particular tariff. Switching to Fixonline 8 will not automatically guarantee you receive one. You need to apply for these separately.

Cybergibbons has posted an excellent link which will give you much more info about this offer.

There is a cancellation fee for breaking the terms of Fixonline 6 before the contract end date on 1 April 2011. However, as Pincher correctly points out, this may or may not be charged. It depends on the circumstances at the time.

The unit prices for the electricity are the same on both the Fixonline 6 and 8 tariffs; as are the gas primary unit prices. However, the secondary gas unit prices are lower on 8 than 6.

There are also differences in the amount of discount between the two tariffs depending on the region you are in.

I would pop your usage on to one of the comparison sites to see all your options, both with us and the other suppliers.

Hope this makes things a little clearer kazzys. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

Just a quick heads up Pincher.

You are absolutely spot on about a maximum of two switches every three months if going through our website.

However, customers wanting to switch again when they have exhausted the two strikes and you're out website option can still do so. They just need to contact us to do it.

They can either call or drop an email to the address in our Profiles. We will be happy to do this for them. :)
