BT Call Plan charges

I had the same idea as kennyg123. I am on BT Unlimited Evening & Weekend and planned to change to Unlimited Weekend and use 18185 for evening and daytime calls. Before I switched I thought it would be a good idea to register for 18185 to see how good it was. However I am having major problems with BT. When I try and use 18185 to make a call I get a BT message that says "if you are on BT Basic or Light User you can only use BT to make your calls". I am not on either of these as BT have confirmed. BT have not replied to any of my emails. When I called they referred me to 18185, whose website says this is a BT problem and BT should reset my line. When I called BT again the person I spoke to had not heard of 18185 but then went on to say that if I want to use it then I have to switch to Basic Line Rental, which contradicts the original message. Has anyone else had this problem with BT?

Any evidence to support this claim ?, I would be amazed if it were true, BT are pretty keen on their Corporate Social Responsibilty and have department that deals with all things green, given this claim is posted without any without any supporting evidence some people seem all too keen to accept this as true, perhaps a link to a BT site with this policy change quoted may convince me, but without something like that, it sounds like bovine excrement

BT are not advertising any discount to take up paper free billing, as a discount would be the biggest selling point it certainly does not look good.

Why would I choose paper-free billing?
    • Youll reduce the amount of paper you use
    • Youll get free 24/7 secure online access to your account
    • You can view your last 6 months' bills and call costs, updated daily
    • You can download and print your bill if you need to
    • Youll receive an email when your bill is ready

    How good of them
Paper-free billing is provided free of charge

Welcome to the MSE forums DM01.

Others have reported similar problems in the past. It turned out to be an old BT tag on the line which BT need to remove.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I think you are looking at this from the wrong direction, BT state line rental is £11.54 based on direct debit and paperless billing, they then go on to state add £1.25 if a paper bill is required, so it isnt a discount, the basic price doesnt include paper bills, but if you want one add £1.25....but i do accept that in the advertising they could (but dont) state 'and its £1.25 cheaper than receiving a 'paper' bill.
