How far does motorway sound travel?

Thinking of purchasing a property in a small town near the M1 motorway, Lutterworth.
The property is approx 0.9miles (according to Google Earth) from M1, with the town between property and motorway.
Question is, will the sound be obvious, did not hear anything when viewing but it was the quiet time of the evening.
Any suggestions, or does anyone live in this area with first hand knowledge.
Thanks.

Depends on the wind.
And other background noise.
And whether there are trees/other obstructions in between.
And your hearing.
Only one way to find out....0 -
i live about 1 mile away from m11 junction there are several factors that can affect the sound travelling
if the wind is blowing over the motorway then it seems to carry the sound , if it's blowing away then we don't hear it , also buildings , trees etc can prevent the sound travelling , also part of the mway is higher than the village so sound travels , but some of it has high banks around it so that prevents the sound from escaping , also you do get used to the noise , in the village i used to live i always thought of it being fairly quiet , but our house had a railway line at the end of the garden and a main road at the front , but where i live now has no thru traffic and it's very quiet and i realise how noisy our old house was
if you want to get a better idea then go at rush hour - 8-00am for an hour or so0 -

It shouldn't be a problem there. The wind is in a north easterly direction and the motorway generally is lower than the built up area of the town.0 -
but it also depends on what you are concerned the noise will mean. if you work 9-5 monday to friday, then presumably, those times and an hour either side or more when you're travelling or getting ready, you wont really be concerned about the noise, but you might be, when it comes to early evening and you want to relax and watch the telly or sit in the garden and similar to weekends, you might want to sit in the garden
so if it was me, those are the times i wold want to see how the noise was to see if i could tolerate it0 -
We live about 200 meters from the carriageway of a motorway, but as it on a tree coverd hillside above us, we very rarely hear any noise at all.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

You also need to visit on a wet day. Motorways can be much noisier then.0

We live next to a major A road and although you can clearly hear cars especially at night you actually start to filter it out and don't hear it. I also use to live behind a major train station and could hear the station annoucements in my garden and count the cars on a coal train that went through at 2am. You filter that out as well.0

Hi there
well I actually live in a small village near lutterworth, just off j20 m1, and am approximately the same distance away ( 0.9m)
we rarely hear the motorway at all - it is only if the wind is coming towards us that you hear the traffic - but even then tbh you have to stop and actually "listen" for it.
We are currently on the move ( hopefully 2 wks) but I certainly wouldn't let it put you off buying
Lutterworth & surrounding areas are a lovely place to live
not my house your buying is it?? lol0 -
You may well ‘start to filter it out’ and ‘don't hear it’. The problem however is selling it on again to a new viewer/buyer.
If you live ‘about 200 meters from the carriageway of a motorway’ and, ‘rarely hear any noise at all’, either it’s a very quiet motorway, or you have hearing problems.
Some buyers don’t seem to care. Six months ago, not far from us, a lovely spacious house sold easily. It has a large garden with its RH border fence being the motorway fence, ie: your neighbour is lane one of the motorway.
Great house, awful location and they paid a lot of money for it. Weird.0 -
Have you considered the traffic fumes?0
