Banks reluctant to issue £50 notes

Hey folks
I asked a local bank today if they could offer withdrawals in £50 notes - the answer was no, unless a customer happened to deposit some at the bank that day.
I went to another bank where I have an account - same answer.
Anyone have ideas on how to get hold of £50 notes? It's for foreign exchange purposes as I'm told some overseas bureaux offer a (slightly) better rate if £50s are used.
Any advice would be great

I'm sure the bank you have your account with will arrange to get you some dependent on how many you require.0

Presumably give the bank a couple of days notice and they could 'order' some in for you.0
-
simple, phone up your bank's customer service and say I want £x in 50s please and they'll tell you when you can collect it.0
-
Or i'm sure your local post office can give you some £50s if you use your debit card.0

A Most customers and shops don't like £50's
B As a result most banks don't get a lot of £50's in
C All banks will be order an amount for you in bundles of £2500 - but it could take up to 2 weeks depending on the bank's ordering day and delivery day.
D If you are happy to pay the security van to deliver to your bank immediately (24 to 36 hours) the fee of minimum £100 + VAT they can order for you.
Personally IMO would it not be cheaper for the forex dealer to accept a debit card (most banks have a maximum limit of £30k per day) rather than cash and safer for you?0 -
Thanks folks - with regard to ordering, I was offered the above option of £2500 in £50s... a bit much.
I tried the post office (local one - main one has mile-long queues) but they hardly get them paid in. I planned to contact my bank again but this time via customer services - I'll give it a try tomorrow and see if the response is any different.0 -
you can usually get them from a business counter from a large-ish branch.
I managed to get £100 notes no problem without any notice.
