US Iphone - does this work in the UK?

Options
Hi, my son is looking at getting an Iphone, not the latest one but the one before. I have a friend in the US and we thought about buying one there and getting them to bring it over when they visit. However I do not know if they will then work over here. Does anyone know if they will?

Thanks for reading

Yes but you need to jailbreak/unlock it as even bought on pay as you go, they are cellular locked to ATT

Hi, thanks for that. Is that something I can get done easily in the UK, if I wanted to run it as a PAYG on O2 for example?

You can. But are you saving that much, how much are they there?

Also my understanding is that iPhones are not covered by the international warranty as it is the carrier's responsibility. This was what I was told when buying one in Australia.

If you jailbreak/unlock it you lose all warranty, you can't upgrade it always without risk of bricking it (white screen, won't turn on kinda thing)
So only do it if you (or your mate) really know what they are doing.

How simple it is depends how happy you are with downloading dodgy software and attaching your iphone to the PC and hitting "unlock it for me!"

Also, little OT iphones suck, get a HTC instead cheaper and better =)

I need around £10,000. Help me get there!
