I asked this on another thread, but got no replies
so I thought I'd start a new thread (and add it to the main jam recipe thread later
).
I was given some jars of Gooseberry and orange and Plum and orange jams. They were given by my chimney sweep (who I hardly know) and made by a friend of his, in exchange for his taking some plums from our garden to give to her to preserve.
I've been unable to get a recipe from them, so wondered if anyone had a recipe that they use?
TIA, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
I don't have the recipes but if they taste nice, you need to get to know your sweep better
(both sound lovely)
***found this one but you may have already seen & discounted it. http://www.recipesource.com/side-dishes/jams/01/rec0102.html it does say you can substitute green for red gooseberries***0 -
Whenever my mum made jam she always just used equal amounts of fruit and sugar and boiled until it was at setting point then jarrred.0

Am going to make jam for the first time - and have found a simple Plum recipe, however I am confused about waxed discs!
If I am using a lid - do I need a wax disc? If so, does the disc sit on the jam or on the jar, not touching the jam?
Thanks!0 -
Hi Dora, if you are using a lid then a wax disc is not necessary.0

I've just made Marrow & Ginger Jam... It's my first attempt at jam making, although I have made chutneys before.
Seems to have come out good.
How long do you leave the jam sealed before using it? I know with chutney it's best to leave 2 or 3 months to 'mature'.. is it the same with jam?I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -

Can someone tell me why, when making a jelly, it's recommended to strain the liquid overnight? Mine seems to barely drip after being strained for about 10 minutes. What's the benefit of leaving it longer, just to obtain a teaspoon full more liquid? Thanks.0

Hello there,
I am thinking of making my own jam, but dont know how to, dont know what I need (ingredients and utensials wise).
Also, Can anyone tell me how long the jam lasts for? Can it be frozen?
Is it expensive to make your own jam especially when your just starting out?
