Earphones for Ipod

My Dad's just got a new Ipod. He's currently using his old Sennheiser CX300s but these will fall apart before long. As he loves his music my brother and and are wanting to buy him some pretty decent noice isolating in-ear earphones for fathers day. Can anyone reccomend any? We've a budget of about £70. We've been looking on Ebay at some Shure ones but we're really not sure what to go for. Anyone any advise?

Stick to the well-regarded brands; Bose, Sennheiser, Sony, etc
  • Bang and olufsen A8's, but dont get them from ebay as there are lots of fakes around

get them from a propper shop. ive got some and i cant fault them, check out the reviews

There is a huge choice out there. I used to have shure and they are a good earphone. Perhaps better value is Soundwise A1, you can get on amazon. I use these now and they sound much more expensive than they are. The Bang and Olufsen are also not bad but I found them uncomfortable. I would not risk buying any famous brand on either ebay or amazon. There is more fakes than genuine.

I have a pair of the Shure SCL2 noise-isolating earphones (identical to the previous Shure E2C ones) and they sound great.

I'd be wary of buying earphones on eBay, though - I ended up with some cheap & nasty fakes a while back.
  • Beware of the fake ones. Some look the same as the originals... so if i were you i'd buy them on a real apple store! :P

I run these on my ipods http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shure-SE115-Sound-Isolating-Earphones/dp/B002ACNZFS

only thing is they are not as bassy as some earphones,so if thats your dads thing it may not suit
however I love them, great tight fit and cracking quality

£70 is plenty for good EAR phones (we're talking about earphones and not HEADphones here aren't we?). If so, avoid the Bose ones, most reviews say they're disappointing, unlike their excellent headphones. I've got a very good set of Sonys that I got from Play.com for around £50, they mightn't quite be the premium brands as above, but they're excellent.

The only Shures I've tried that were any good were the SE530s - the rest were sub-par.

Sony EX500s are good for £40 - £50 as are the Hippo VBs.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.
