Nationwide Online Overpayments

I want to make payments online from my bank to nationwide, i was told to insert my account number as PAYEE name.

But im afraid that my cash will get lost in the system.

Has anyone used this method, or is it better to start writing letters & cheques.

Regards,

Alias

Not tried this way before, I swapped banks to Nationwide so it was nice and simple. You can setup online banking with a Nationwide mortgage, you could perhaps do this, make a test payment for say £5 from your bank and see if it appears in your statement online? If so then you know it works ok.

Hi. I also have a mortgage with Nationwide and make online payments. I originally set up a Nationwide Flex Account and make bank transfers to the Flex Account. You can then make a direct payment from the Flex Account to your mortgage account.

I have to say we do it via the flex account too. I can't see why it would get lost. I presume you have got the internet banking set up. Can you just send a really small amount and then see it arrives?

    Hi,

I've been overpaying from my TSB account for Years using a standing order, means I can vary amount I pay each month if I can't manage the £500 Maximum.

Just contact Nationwide and they will give you the Sort code, account number etc to make overpayments to.

Hi there. I have a Nationwide Flex and two mortgage products. You can set up a new regular payment or a single payment under 'Payments and Transfers.' Or, you can make a one off payment through the first tab once you're in the 'Payments and Transfers' bit - your mortgage should be listed in the drop down menu. Select this and choose your amount.

I have a regular monthly transfer set up for OPs. However, if I have some spare cash I use the one off payment facility to transfer as little as £2. I've never had a problem.

I OP on my mortgage using my HSBC current account. You just ring Nationwide for the account details, enter your mortgage account number as the reference/description (I put my name in the Account name field, not sure it matters what goes in there) and it goes through within a couple of days. If in doubt try it with a nominal sum of £1 first.

I've now set up a standing order each month using my internet banking, like a previous poster. This gives me the flexibility to change the amount easily if I want to.
What goes around comes around.....I hope!

i do it from lloydstsb and its always been fine. I do it as a bill payment with the info nationwide gave me, sort code account number and then mortgage number as reference and always no problems. this way i can vary what i pay and make payments as and when ( i also do a tiny regular standing order too to pay extra each month).

As suggested by others though try a small op initally, and check the next working day etc if its showing off the online balance.
Mortgage free 04/03/2025. Thanks to this site and lots of overpayments bit by bit.
Next stop: house repairs, holiday fund, replace our very old cars, more financial security/early retirement savings.🤞

    OP,

It is exactly the same as making any other payment online. It will not get lost provided you specify the correct account number and sort code.

If you are unsure, first try a small amount. FYI, I once made a payment where the account details I had been given were incorrect, and the money was returned to my account.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

I make all our overpayments to Nationwide mortgage via internet banking from my HSBC account. The first one I did was not for a small amount - it was £10,000 and I didn't put the account number in the right place so it got lost in the system. I was practically crying on the phone to them, thought all the money would be gone but they found it and returned it straight away. They were excellent and very helpful. They then talked me through exactly what to put where and all subsequent payments have gone through like a dream.

Much easier than cheques etc ...
