Untidy aubretia

my aubretia has been fantastic this year but now is on the decline.I know that in a few weeks it will be dry and the rockery will look a mess.Am i supposed to cut it back after flowering and if so how much? I am trying to get it to spread and have taken some cuttings in past years but they are a bit hit and miss.
Any advice appreciated.

    Hi
Yes, I get my hedge shears out and give mine a light clip, it keeps the aubretia tight and stops it getting long and straggly. Ecourages new fresh growth for flowering next year

You can cut it back really hard - leaving two to three inches of stems. It will quickly green up and grow good and bushy again.

If you want to propagate some new plants, wait til the new growth is about two inches long, pinch some off the main plant, strip the leaves off the lower half and put them in a gritty compost. They will root quite readily.

I give the old plants a light trim and they get long and rather soggy mess when it rains

I got quite a few varieties some are variegated but fairly new

Some of the old one has seed pods so might keep some seeds back. I bought a pack of seeds last year and growing some new plants but they seem slow growing. I noticed a few plant growing in the driveway in the cracks so lifted them out to pot on
