Sometimes can work but customs have the right to open any parcel and if they belive any of the documentation to be false i.e price or contents description they will charge you for it.
Some games companies for instance paly asia won't mark anything down as a gift, certain sellers on ebay will mark the value down of the goods but if you goods are damaged or lost then you can only claim for the value that was declared so it's swings and roundabouts0 -

Most newer TVs can handle both, but it's something to check

The gift limit is £36, and it needs to be sent from one private person outside the UK to another within it.0 -

I wasn't sure there was a limit, thanks for letting me know. However the second point was me being sneaky

They can get you if they find receipts on you - so get rid!
Not quite.
It's down to you to prove you bought them in the UK, not Customs to prove you didn't.
If you have no reciepts they can charge / fine you and you have to pay it or the goods are confiscated. After that you can appeal and send the UK reciepts in to get the Charge/fine overturned.
I've also had items way overvalued and had to claim the costs back, (£20 for a video tape of Star trek taped of US TV.. ) as they assume no-one ever claims back, and they'll get away with it.
Never heard of it happening, but thats the way the rules are written.
Marking it as a gift DOES NOT mean it will attract no tax, Customs duty is payable on anything if the amount of duty is £7 and over and Import VAT is due if the value of the goods is £18 and over. This is raised to £36 if it's marked Gift however thats no guarantee you won't be charged. THe rules state if it's paid for directly or indirectly it's not a gift, probably not something they'd chase but possible you'll be charged.0 -

My old Standard Xbox could switch output between PAL and NTSC so I assume this can. The reference to the media extender I made earlier, is more to do with how they interact the media center may be a UK PC version talking to a US xbox360, and that might give issues.0
