slings for newborn??

That's a good question - I lived in Malawi until I was 5, and always used to get carried around using a sheet made into a sling, apparently...have seen photo's and the whole thing looks rather intricate

I just used to use a blanket wrapped around me, nothing fancy just something i had around the house. I breastfed both of mine which made it so much easier in the home made sling i had.
Just wrap the blanket up twice and make the knot is tied tightly at the top, that way when you take it off it keeps its shape.0 -
I also use just a strip of stretchy jersey fabric, and find it very good. I'm not known for having a strong back, yet find this very comfy and doesn't cause me any pain at all. Takes a bit of practice to tie on, but once you've got the knack you'll be well away.
Lots of very good instructions of how to tie them on the web.

Oh and....
If you're interested I have the other half of the length of material I used just knocking about here, it's 5 meters in length and I'm a size 16 with quite a long torso so if you're similar build or smaller this length would be long enough. (It's fairly unisex albeit a bit bold, burgandy with cartoon jungle animals on it). I'm sure we can come to some arrangement etc....

I am a Freedom sling user - can't fault it. Wished I got one with the other two - with no. 3, I knew I was going to have to be hands free as no. 2 is a clingy so and so and wont' go anywhere unless holding my hand! It works. If it's tied wrong, it pulls my back, but when right, I don't notice him (and he's a great big 20lb plus pudding these days). At 10 months old he loves it - can see everything that's going on in the playground and on the school run. He does occassionally 'slip' a bit in it but it's very gradual and I haven't dropped him ever (yet!!) but I do think that tends to happen when I'm in a rush and shove it on without thinking about it properly. They're very cheap to try - worth it if you're new to the 'baby wearing' thing and want to test the water a bit. Highly recommended.0

I loved my Kari Me but once she was 6 months I swapped to a non-stretchy wrap as she was too bouncy in it and I didn;t feel comfy. I hated the wilkinet as I couldn;t get it to feel safe, but the Kari-Me I used continusously for months as DD hated the pram. She was a very small baby (6lbs 3oz and tiny build, she looked prem) but I had her in the Kari-Me from about 6 weeks and it was great. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Congrats on your newborn. I think the first week is magical.
Then they immediately double in size and kinda fill out their faces and you spend the next several months going "what happened to my tiny baby?". lol
thank you -I love it all but the first week is magical!!trufflebuggy wrote: »Oh and....

Thank you for the offer but I really want a girly fabric as I'm a bit of a girly girl & I get to do pink now!!
but thank you.
Thank you for all the replies. I have looked into them all and found a sling like the kari me called moby I like the look of - does anyone have one of these?SAHM Mummy tods (born Oct 2007) and dd (born June 2010)0 -
My friend has a moby and loves it. It is very similar to the Kari-Me but I think has a separate piece to add round you and ties slightly differently. :j
