Radiator Covers

A thread on OS suggested putting a shelf above radiators to deflect heat into the room rather than have it go up behind the cutains and be lost through the window. We have very little space between radiator and windowsill and a radiator cover would look better than a shelf. I gather that rad covers reduce the heat from the radiator, but would this be better than losing the heat up the back of the curtains IYKWIM.

I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

Much better!
Anyway I though rad covers were designed to direct the heat into the room. They don't get hot so I don't see why they reduce the heat that much.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. We have put in a couple, put silver backing on the shelf and on the back of the radiator, all the heat(well a good 85%)is pushed forward into the room0
