All My computer fonts seem to display incorrect WHY?

Hi there

Can anyone help me I have a problem reading text and numbers on my computer although I can type the and correct font and it appears. When I read several texts I seem to lose either a number or two or a letter or two in the line of the text i am reading. They appear as dots or underscores or something similiar ( if this makes any sense at all) My computer always worked fine and all lines of texts were visible as should be. I dont understand why this has suddenly started to happen.

If anyone can shed some light on this i would be grateful to hear.

Thanks Crystal

Does this happen when you type in any application, or is it application specific?
  • when i type it comes out correct.

example 1 = my computer properties/ veiw system information page I think all the capital M and number 5's look like they have slipped to next line of text or just look like dots or underscores, I can only read them if i highlight the line of text they are on.

example 2= Same type of thing happens when i am looking for a thread some letters or numbers seem to be like above

example 3 = Again I have noticed this type of error on the top blue bar like this window.( althoughit is displaying correct at present)

Hope this makes some sense to someone

Do you have a digital camera, are you able to take a picture of the problem?

It is sounding like a video problem, or possibly malware, but difficult to visualise.. Is this a tft screen? Desktop/laptop. Does it do it in safe mode?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • As a test..

Right mouse click destop > Properties > Appearence > Effects...

tick "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:" then choose ClearType from the drop down box.

After that go to Advanced instead of Effects and ensure that under Item, "Desktop" is selected.

Also make sure that "Font size:" is set to normal in the Appearence tab before you click the effects or advanced tabs.

Does this have ANY effect on the problem?

albertross, I don't see how it could be videocard related as the gfx has no idea what's text/graphics/images etc.. just all pixels to that :p

I would most probarbly suspect malware due to only certain events showing the problem!

I'm having problems visualising the problem, so I don't know .. but have seen missing pixels before due to faulty video card/screen.

I did all you requested as a test, then went back to My computer/Properties/General which is one place I knew the fonts were displaying incorrect.
Guess what you are a star :T :T The info in general is now displaying as it should.
So here's hoping that it has fixed the problem for good.
I still don't understand why it went that way in the first place though.
